About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic ophthalmology team at a major tertiary hospital in Auckland, where you’ll work alongside experienced ophthalmologists and eye health professionals. The role offers a mix of clinical and diagnostic work, with access to modern equipment and ongoing professional development.
Contract options include both 12-month fixed-term and permanent full-time positions, offering flexibility for those seeking either short-term experience or long-term relocation.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct orthoptic assessments and manage a range of binocular vision disorders
- Support paediatric and adult patients with strabismus, amblyopia, and other visual conditions
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and optometrists in multidisciplinary clinics
- Participate in vision screening programmes and community outreach initiatives
- Contribute to clinical audits and service improvement projects
What you’ll need
- A recognised qualification in Orthoptics from an IOA-accredited programme or an equivalent from an affiliated country
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand, with registration with the New Zealand Orthoptic Society (NZOSI) required upon starting
- At least 2 years of post-qualification clinical experience
- Strong clinical judgment, clear documentation, and excellent communication skills
- A commitment to culturally safe practice, patient rights, and delivering high-quality care
