Medical Imaging Technologist (MRI)

The opportunity

We are recruiting a full‑time, permanent MRI Technologist to join a well‑established imaging service operating within a large tertiary hospital in the Lower North Island. This role sits within a busy hospital setting that supports a broad range of acute and specialist services and offers strong clinical exposure for experienced MRI practitioners.

You’ll be working as part of a close‑knit, highly experienced MRI team that values shared knowledge, collaboration, and high standards of patient care.

The environment

The service operates in a complex hospital setting with a varied and interesting case mix. The team works closely with multiple clinical services, providing essential imaging support across both planned and urgent pathways. This is a role well‑suited to someone who enjoys hospital‑based MRI and values working in a structured, well‑supported environment.

The organisation is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to fostering a workplace that is inclusive, respectful, and culturally safe. Staff are supported to work collaboratively, develop professionally, and deliver care that is centred on equity and quality outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Delivering high‑quality MRI imaging in line with clinical and safety standards

  • Preparing and supporting patients throughout their MRI procedures

  • Working collaboratively with radiologists, clinicians, and wider hospital teams

  • Contributing to image quality assurance and service efficiency

What we’re looking for

  • Registration with the NZMRTB, including a current APC (or eligibility to obtain one) and an MRI Scope of Practice

  • Full working rights in New Zealand, or eligibility to work in New Zealand with no restrictions (visa)

  • At least 2 years’ post‑graduate experience in MRI, ideally within a hospital setting

  • A patient‑focused approach with sound clinical judgement and strong communication skills

What’s on offer

  • Full‑time, permanent employment

  • Ongoing professional development and CPD support

  • 5 weeks of annual leave

  • Rostered evening shifts, with all after‑hours work paid at overtime rates

  • The opportunity to work in a well‑resourced tertiary hospital with a complex and rewarding caseload
