Prospero Health & Social Care NZ is seeking an experienced General Practitioner to provide locum cover within a well-established, independent, GP-owned practice in Christchurch.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected Cornerstone-accredited teaching practice with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to its local community. You'll be supported by an experienced and collaborative team of General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, and Administration staff who are committed to providing accessible and comprehensive primary healthcare.

Locum cover required: November 2026 to 14 February 2027
Up to 4 days per week
Flexibility available regarding working days
Clinic hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm
Standard appointments are 15 minutes
Approximately 12 patients per session
Opportunity to undertake rest home visits if interested (not essential)
Conduct patient consultations, obtain comprehensive medical histories, and perform clinical examinations.
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
Develop treatment plans and coordinate ongoing patient care.
Prescribe medications and arrange specialist referrals where appropriate.
Support preventative healthcare and health promotion initiatives.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Collaborate closely with nursing, administrative, and wider healthcare teams.
Provide evidence-based medical advice and patient education.
Adhere to professional, clinical, and regulatory standards.
Contribute positively to the practice's culture and commitment to quality care.
Current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (or eligibility to register).
Vocationally Registered GP, or a doctor working towards vocational registration.
Previous experience working within primary healthcare.
Strong clinical and diagnostic skills across a broad range of presentations.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care.
Interest in continuity of care and community-based medicine.
Interest in undertaking rest home visits would be advantageous but is not essential.
