Prospero Health & Social Care is assisting with the recruitment of an Emergency Medicine Registrar for a single regional emergency department within the Bay of Plenty, commencing April 2026 or as soon as the successful candidate is available.
This position may be suitable for either a non‑training Emergency Medicine Registrar or a training‑aligned role, depending on your experience, MCNZ registration status, and suitability for ACEM pathways.

About the Role
This Emergency Medicine Registrar position provides diverse exposure to acute, undifferentiated presentations within a well-supported ED environment. The role structure will be aligned to either a non‑training or training‑compatible pathway depending on your background.
You will gain experience across:
- Acute resuscitation and trauma
- Medical and surgical emergency presentations
- Paediatric emergencies
- Mental health presentations in the ED
- Minor injuries and procedural work
- Short-stay and observation medicine
Key responsibilities:
- Assess, stabilise, and manage emergency presentations under consultant supervision
- Deliver safe, high-quality, culturally responsive care
- Participate in rostered shift work
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary and cultural support teams
- Maintain accurate documentation and communication
- Support junior doctors and students
- Engage in supervision and education sessions (for training‑aligned roles)
This position offers excellent preparation for ACEM Fellowship and strong development for non‑training registrars.
What You’ll Need
- Eligibility for MCNZ Provisional General or General Registration
- Recognised primary medical degree
- Minimum 12 months’ experience in Emergency Medicine or acute care specialties (e.g., ICU, acute medicine, surgery)
- Ability to work effectively in a busy, varied emergency setting
